Chesapeake Energy Corporation, its subsidiaries and affiliate companies (collectively, “Chesapeake”, “we”, “us”) knows you care how information about you is used and shared. This Privacy Statement explains what information of yours will be collected by Chesapeake when you use or enter the Web Site or software provided through or in connection with the Web Site (collectively, the “Service”), how the information will be used, and how you can control the collection, correction and/or deletion of information. Chesapeake will not use or share your information with anyone except as described in this Privacy Statement.
Information We Collect
General Information: When you visit or use the Service, Chesapeake may automatically collect certain non-identifying information that allows the Service to communicate with your computer during the visit. Chesapeake also tracks the number of visits to the site, which parts of the site you select, your IP address (the Internet address assigned to your computer from your Internet Service Provider), your domain type, your browser type (e.g., Netscape or Internet Explorer), and the date and time of day of your use. This information is not sold or otherwise disclosed to third parties for any purposes.
User-Provided Information: You may, by registering with or creating an account through the Service, provide us with information about yourself, such as your name and e-mail address. If you correspond with us, we may retain the content of that correspondence and your email or other contact information. In addition, you may choose to add information about yourself via profiles or other software through the Service that you share with or choose to make visible to others.
When you visit or use the Service, we may send one or more “cookies” - a small text file containing a string of alphanumeric characters - to your computer that uniquely identifies your browser and lets us enhance your navigation through the Service. A cookie does not collect personal information about you. Chesapeake may use both session cookies and persistent cookies. A persistent cookie remains on your hard drive after you close your browser. Persistent cookies may be used by your browser on subsequent visits to the site. Persistent cookies can be removed by following your web browser’s directions. A session cookie is temporary and disappears after you close your browser. You can select options from your web browser to erase and/or refuse all cookies or to indicate, for your acceptance, when a cookie is being sent; however, some features of the Service may not function properly if the ability to accept cookies is disabled.
Chesapeake does not seek any sensitive information from you unless legally required to do so, for example, in connection with recruiting or hiring. Sensitive information includes, but is not limited to, information relating to: race or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious or other similar beliefs, trade union membership, physical or mental health, sexual life or criminal record. Chesapeake suggests that you do not provide sensitive information of this nature in connection with any use of the Service, including in any content you may post or provide to or through the Service. However, if you do provide such information, Chesapeake accepts your explicit consent to use that information in the ways described in this Privacy Statement or in the ways described at the point where such information is disclosed.
How We Use Your Information
We use the personal information you submit to operate, maintain, and provide to you the features and functionality of the Service. Chesapeake never discloses your personal information to any third party unless you have instructed us to do so.
Any personal information or content that you voluntarily disclose for posting to the Service (for instance, in content that you post on or through the Service) becomes available to the public via the Service and our business partners. If you remove such content, copies may remain viewable in cached and archived pages or if other users have copied or stored such content that was previously publicly visible.
By providing Chesapeake your e-mail address you consent to our using the e-mail address to send you Service-related notices, including any notices required by law, in lieu of communication by postal mail. We may also use your e-mail address to send you other messages, such as regarding Service-related content or changes to features of the Service. If you do not want to receive such e-mail messages, you may opt out by changing the applicable settings in your account on the Service. Opting out may prevent you from receiving e-mail messages regarding updates, improvements, or offers. You may not opt out of receiving e-mails regarding Service-related notices.
Chesapeake may use certain information about you and/or content that you submit to or through the Service without identifying you as an individual to third parties. We do this for purposes such as analyzing how the Service is used, diagnosing service or technical problems, and maintaining security.
Chesapeake may develop or offer through the Service special sites in cooperation with other companies or partner with other companies for selected services. If you register at these "co-branded" sites or other services, we may share your registration information (such as name and email address) with that company.
Chesapeake also reserves the right to remove information upon the request of any third party.
