Kwik Trip, Inc., one of the largest convenience store chains in the US upper Midwest which operates in excess of 400 stores, has commenced a new initiative by introducing alternative fuels. Kwik Trip’s ownership and management holds a strong belief that Natural Gas is the vehicle fuel of the future. The company currently operates over twenty natural gas vehicles ( NGVs), from light duty vehicles to heavy duty class 8 vehicles.

Through Kwik Trips own anchor fleet, they will test, promote and educate Kwik Trip consumers about the benefits of Natural Gas as a vehicle fuel. It’s goal is promote and market to the public the knowledge that it acquires from purchasing, operating and maintaining its own NGV fleet.

Kwik Trip has committed to developing a functional Natural Gas vehicle fuel infrastructure throughout Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa. Below is a listing of their fueling stations already open or coming soon; all offering compressed natural gas (CNG) and some will also include liquefied natural gas (LNG).

As a privately held company, Kwik Trip has determined to expand its fuel offerings beyond traditional fuels without partnering with large energy companies. By bringing Natural Gas to the market on its own, the company says it has positioned itself to provide a better, more affordable solution to its customers and the public. Kwik Trip plans to expand availability through its current network of stores as well as building new locations, which will allow the company to provide the best and most functional natural gas vehicle fueling infrastructure possible.

To officially mark it’s entrance into Natural Gas as a vehicle fuel, the company will be hosting a Natural Gas Tradeshow and Summit around the May opening of the La Crosse, WI station. The event will also feature almost 50 NGVs on site.

The station was designed and built by the Alternative Fuels business unit of GP Strategies Corporation, a global performance improvement solutions provider. It includes one 15,000-gallon LNG storage tank, two LNG fuel dispensers and three dual hose CNG dispensers. The station will serve Kwik Trip’s LNG- and CNG-powered vehicles, private fleets, and vehicles using multiple or other alternative fuels.

Stores located in Wisconsin and Minnesota operate under the “Kwik Trip” brand whereas stores in Iowa operate as “Kwik Star.”​​
