FEDERAL ACTION

Our elected leaders have begun taking action to make CNG a mainstream fuel for transportation in the U.S. – just as it is in so many countries around the world.

From Congressman Rahm Emanuel’s H.R. 6570
The New Alternative Transportation to Give Americans Solutions Act (or the “Natgas Act”):

Introduced on July 22, 2008
• Goal: By 2018, 10% of new vehicles sold in the U.S.
are NGVs (natural gas vehicles) fueled by CNG
Included in the 10-point bill:
• Create a new production credit for NGVs manufactured
  in the U.S.
• Authorize $5 billion of tax credit bonds to provide no or low-
interest loans for the re-tooling of manufacturing facilities
in the U.S. to produce NGVs
• Increase the fleet incentive for bulk purchases of CNG
  vehicles
• Provide incentives for consumers to buy CNG vehicles and
for fuel retailers to install pumps to sell CNG

From Senator Inhofe’s S. 3281
The “Drive America on Natural Gas Act”:

• Introduced on July 17, 2008
(1) Expands the definition of the Renewable Fuels Standard
(RFS) to allow the use of CNG and LNG fuels to meet the
RFS mandates to encourage the use of natural gas and
“send a signal to the nation’s automakers and fuels
industries that natural gas is a competitive option as a
    mainstream transportation fuel.”
(2) Broadens the Alternative Vehicle Tax Credit to include
     bi-fuel vehicles.
