Bossier City receives $400k for natural gas stations

Source:  Shreveport Times

Bossier City and Bossier Parish will receive $429,682.50 from the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality for compressed natural gas fueling stations, State Rep. Jane Smith (R-Bossier City) announced on Monday.

Smith's office said the funds are intended to offset approximately 75% of the costs associated with converting four city, heavy-duty trucks and parish, heavy-duty trucks to run on compressed natural gas.

Today's announcement was the culmination of a grant opportunity brought about through the recent "American Recovery and Reinvestment Act," officials said.

Both Bossier City and Bossier Parish Police Jury have committed to converting their heavy-duty fleets to run on compressed natural gas. The nine trucks associated with today's award are expected to be in service by August 2010 when the city expects to have two city-owned compressed natural gas fueling stations open and available to the public.
